Nick Burgoyne - Landscapes
Bali was formed by intense volcanic action and a spine of
mountains runs right through her midriff. This creates a landscape
of constant undulation and slopes down towards the lowlands and
the ocean. It also creates astonishing opportunities for the
photographer.
We moved into the foothills of Mt. Batukaru nearly a decade ago
and I walk or cycle in the rice paddies and along the small lanes
several times a week. Both the natural and cultivated landscape is
amply supplied with the abundant water flowing down the mountain
and the rains which seem to come every day! The water flow in the
cultivated fields is controlled by local water councils: the 'Subak'.
