Christian Vanneque

Short Bio - 2004

Christian Vanneque is a gentle, unassuming man whose casual demeanour belies his immense expertise in the worlds of wine and fine dining. His credentials were established in the early 70’s at a surprisingly young age, becoming France’s youngest chef sommelier, at La Tour d’Argent in Paris, at the age of 20.

He stayed with the trade and pursued a career in wine and restaurants for the next 30 years in France and the US, eventually becoming a noted wine columnist for several national newspapers and magazines.

He created Best Bets in order to present the high quality restaurants, spa’s and creators of fine hand-crafted products on the island.

“During my yearly visits, I realised that Bali’s rapid ascent into the upper echelons of fine dining and entertainment, products and services, was calling out for a guidebook. With our team, I began the selection process in 2000 and Best Bets was the result.”

Christian’s speculation proved true and now Best Bets, in its current 3rd edition, has become the definitive guide to all that is best about the Bali scene and in early 2005, the first edition of Resort Guide Bali was published, promoting the fine villas and boutique hotels which have ‘evolved’ here over the last few years.

Tourism in Bali is currently undergoing a renaissance after several setbacks both here and overseas. Best Bets is proud to be part of the revitalisation of Bali and the islands’ continuing journey to become the world’s best holiday destination!
