The Background to the Story of Dhani

Dhani needs skin grafts from his back to reconstruct his lips so he can eat proper food and, in fact, close his mouth; he needs skin grafts on his hands so he can use them like any normal boy; he needs grafts on his ears which previously did not jut straight out of the sides of his head. And he needs all the above urgently – while his body is still growing and before the damage is irreversible.

His father is a good man who wants nothing more for himself than to be able to work and earn money to support his family. For this he needs a prosthetic limb which we'd like to be able to supply.

We became aware of Dhani through Gloria Goodwin of the Crisis Care Foundation Link Gloria met Dhani when he was readmitted to the emergency department in the local hospital when his burns had become reinfected after being discharged prematurely from his first hospital stay (26 days).

It was mainly the efforts of Gloria and her team from Crisis Care, using BURN AID dressings Link from Rye Pharmaceuticals, which saved his life.

Here Gloria applies BURN AID dressings to Dhani's wounds. He still needs regular care, even a year after the initial accident.

Dr Asmarjaya, a renown Indonesian plastic surgeon,  has offered to do the initial operation for a reduced fee in Sanglah Hospital – but only if we can raise sufficient funds for the theatre time, anaesthetist, drugs and 1 week after-care in the hospital. We will also need to cover his transport costs from Air Sanih & back as well as food for his father & maybe a roll up mattress as he will be sleeping on the floor by Dhani's bed during this time.

In the coming months, we hope to raise enough money to pay for extensive surgery for Dhani and welcome your enquiries.
