Dhani and Achmad in Australia - November 2009

Following the semi-successful fitting of Achmad's leg in February it was decided to kill two birds with one stone. Mark and Maria organised visas tickets and accommodation to enable Achmad to visit Alan Crumlin's workshop for a 'fine tuning' on his leg and during the same visit for Dhani's future treatment to be assessed by Fiona Wood - the renown Perth-based plastic surgeon.

The idea was for her to examine Dhani's injuries in detail and, in consultation with Mark to formulate a plan for his next 15 or so years of treatment.

However, yesterday (Nov 5th) Fiona surprised us all by saying that she could operate on Dhani immediately - performing a skin graft to make his face more relaxed and natural - and that she and her team would give their time for free.

We still need to pay for the hospital stay, theatre charges and for drugs and dressings etc. The total cost is estimated at AU$10,000 ( US$9100, £5500). Due to your generous donations, we still  have AU$6000 in Dhani's fund so we need AU$4000 as soon as possible.

Fiona Wood, Achmad, Mark Savage and Dhani meet for the first time.

Fiona checks the elasticity in Dhani's face to establish  an action plan.

Achmad tries his leg on for size. Previously it chafed and did not hang properly.

Now it is perfect and  immediately Achmad is comfortable walking without crutches.

Achmad thanks Alan Crumlin for helping to transform his life! The smiles say it all!
